Words can’t express the amount of fun I had last weekend. The epitome of Nerdy events, where people who love anime and video games can intertwine for the sake of being geeky. For those of you reading this who have no idea what I’m talking about.
You can read all about it here : ”MegaCon, short for Mega Convention, is a large convention that caters to the comic book, sci-fi, anime, fantasy, gaming, and multi-genre community, occurring between late February and early March at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, USA. ” — Wikipedia

How this came to be? Totally last minute. When my friend messaged me about it I went to the website to check out the itinerary for the weekend. To learn that they’re would be Anime cosplay, an U. Marvel vs Capcom 3 tournament, and the mean Stan Lee himself would be attending… shieeet, not going would be a crime.
The next morning I woke up around 530am. To burn some time, I cut on the Xbox360 and finished a few side quest on Kindoms of Alumar. (Yes, it’s going to get nerdier) Turned on the spotify allowing the magical tunes of Vanessa Carelton’s – Ordinary Day to sooth my spirits. I probably shouldn’t admit that but who the fuck cares right?
After a big breakfast and meeting the other guys we set out on the way to MegaCon. We arrive a little after 1130am, climb out the cars and embark on one of the longest 2mile walks I had ever been on. This convention center was massive, I felt like a Final Fantasy Area map and no save point. ( Nerd talk ) As we got closer to it the more cosplay we seen. People dressing up like Bananas to Afro Samurai characters. Oddly enough I felt comfortable, for the first time in a while I didn’t have to deal with the social pressure of being “HIGH VALUE” or “SOCIALLY PROOFED” inside a venue. (Ok, that was filler talk.. Get back to the story Juice)
Being surround by creativity effected me in a way, where I could remember once upon a time that art was all that mattered to me. In grade school where I looked over at J Martin drawing a picture of wolverine inspired me to start a relationship with a pencil that would never be the same. The countless mechanical pencils brought and broken, printing paper stolen/borrowed from my teachers copy machines, and the many portraits of my classmates I drew over the years all flashed back into my head. All those old feeling ignited that passion again to be an artist once more.
Alright, I’m pushing the paper off the desk and speaking to the men for a couple bars. Life changing experiences come in a dime a dozen, so I must make mention of how far the nerd perception has changed for women. 16 years ago, Nerdy girls were lonely, anti-social an unsanitary (At least from my experience). Girls you would avoid touching enough to not even want to brush shoulder with in the hallway. I could go on… but now we’re back to the future and the estrogen portion of the nerd population has come back with a vengeance.
Simply blown away by the countless females in attendance sporting Legend of Zelda gear to Manga cosplay. As the cliche goes, “Like a kid in a candy store” I smiled at my options of potential new friends and licked my chops. Completely in disbelief, I couldn’t comprehend how beautiful these girls were inside and out. Talking to women who appreciate anime and watching they’re eyes light up because we share similar interest in a show. I almost wept cause I was from happiness.
“Nerdy girls are sexy!!” Thanks JenFriel
What really surprised me was the difference of shear creativity and detail between women and men with the cosplay. Sorry guys, but I have to say women have you beat in this area.. they go the extra mile to make it look authentic. Need proff, shit.. just look at the pictures.

I’ll keep it brief the overall experience was the best, I recommended this to anyone who has a similar love for art, anime or video gaming for that matter. Afterwards, I felt challenged and ashamed at the same time. I thought about where would I be if I could just draw for people and make commissions after that. When I got home, I spent 5 bucks to get my deviantart account re-opened and begin sketching and posting up new work. The feed back is great, I am able to talk to the same artist I met at MegaCon which is pretty freaking AWESOME.
